Spain – Germany
Germany
- Their 4-0 defeat of Argentina was the third time in 5 games that Germany scored 4 goals in a match after defeating Australia 4-0 and England 4-1. They have scored the most goals at the 2010 World Cup – 13.
- The Nationalmannschaft has won 3 World Cups and finished as runner-up 4 more times.
- The two nations have met 20 times – Germany have won 8 and Spain 6, with 6 draws.
- Miroslav Klose has scored 14 goals in 18 World Cup games, and is just one short of the all-time record held by Brazilian star Ronaldo.
- Thomas Muller is suspended and the Bayern Munich starlet will be a big miss as he has scored 4 goals from 4 shots on target in this tournament.
Spain
- Spain will be playing in their first ever World Cup semi final.
- The last encounter between these two nations was in the Euro 2008 final – La Furia Roja won 1-0 thanks to a Fernando Torres strike.
- David Villa has scored 5 of team’s 6 goals in South Africa, assisted the other and had 23 shots. He is Spain’s top scorer in World Cup history with 8 goals and is one goal away from equalling Raul’s record of 44 goals for his natonal team.
- Coach Vicente del Bosque will have to make the tough decision of dropping Fernando Torres from the starting line-up as the Liverpool striker has been in disappointing form in the World Cup.
- Centre-back Raul Albiol is still injured.

Germany- Argentina
Argentina
- The Albiceleste have won 12 of their last 13 games and their only slip-up was a 2-1 defeat to Spain last November.
- Argentina have looked great going forwards but their defence has showed signs of fallibility. Germany have issues at the back too so it is unlikely that the match will be a defensive affair.
- Argentina have yet to draw a match under Diego Maradona – they have won 18 and lost 5 of his 23 matches in charge.
- Lionel Messi has had 23 shots at goal in South Africa but has yet to score while Gonzalo Higuain jointly leads the tournament’s goalscoring charts with 4.
- Centre-back Walter Samuel is a doubt.
Germany
- Die Mannschaft turned on the power against England in the last round, swamping them 4-1 in a superb display of attacking football.
- There are a few concerns at the back for the Germans – goalkeeper Neur was very shaky against England and the centre-back duo Mertesacker-Friedrich look like the weak link in the side.
- These two teams have met 5 times before in the competition’s history – the Germans has 3 victories to Argentina’s only one.
- Miroslav Klose’s opener against England was the 12th World Cup goal of his career.
- Striker Cacau is a doubt.

- Strike duo Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez have contributed 5 goals between them already.
- Centre-back Diego Godin is doubtful with a thigh injury.
Ghana

- No African side has ever won a World Cup knock-out match without the game going to extra-time.
- Asamoah Gyan has scored 3 times in South Africa, and also netted at the 2006 World Cup.

- The Oranje have only conceded 4 goals in their last 8 World Cup matches, keeping 4 clean sheets in the process.

- Wesley Sneijder is team’s most potent attacking threat so far with 15 shots, 5 of which have hit the target, and he has bagged 4 goals in his last 6 internationals.
- Arjen Robben’s return to the first team has been a major plus, hitting the target with all 3 of his shots and opening the scoring against Slovakia.
Brazil
- The Selecao showed their class against an open Chile side (that had given Spain a scare in the group stage), racing into a two-goal lead by half-time.
- The Brazilians have only lost 1 of their last 30 games. That came in their penultimate qualifier, a game played at altitude in Bolivia after qualification had already been achieved.
- The South Americans have conceded just 4 goals in their last 11 World Cup matches.

Spain – Portugal
Spain
- La Roja were the pre-tournament favourites but they haven’t looked at their best in the World Cup so far.
- Portugal have won only 5 of their previous 32 meetings with Spain in all competitions.
- David Villa has been team’s best and most consistent player so far, having scored 3 goals. He has scored 6 goals in 6 starts in World Cups and is now the all-time top scorer for his country at the tournament.
- Centre-back Raul Albiol is out while midfielder Xabi Alonso is a doubt.
Portugal
- The Portuguese have gone 19 games unbeaten under coach Carlos Queiroz.
- Seleccao have a brilliant defensive record – they have yet to concede a goal in the World Cup so far and have kept 22 clean sheets in their last 26 matches.
- Portugal don’t have a great striker or a prolific goalscorer but with Cristiano Ronaldo and Simao on the wings, they are very deadly on the counter-attacks.
- Midfielder Danny and Ruben Amorim are doubts.

Paraguay – Japan
Paraguay

- Key midfielder Victor Caceres is suspended.
Japan
- 2 of the Japanese 3 goals against Denmark in their final group game came direct from free-kicks.
- Japan managed only 30 attempts in claiming second place in Group E – 6 fewer than Paraguay.

Brazil-Chile
Brazil
- The Selecao are unbeaten in the tournament so far (W2, D1) and their pragmatic approach would appear ideally suited to knockout football.
- The Brazilians defeated Chile both home (4-2) and away (3-0) in qualification for the finals.
- Kaka, Elano and Robinho will be available after missing the draw with Portugal.
- Felipe Melo and Julio Baptista are doubts.
Chile
- Chile began their World Cup campaign with 2 wins. In their final group game they matched Spain impressively, playing much of the match with 10 men, yet went down 2-1 and looked a little nervous at times.
- In 65 previous meetings against the Selecao, the Chileans have recorded just 7 successes, scoring nearly 100 goals less than their opponents during those fixtures.
- Midfielders Matias Fernandez and Carlos Carmona return after bans.
- Defenders Gary Medel, Waldo Ponce and midfielder Marco Estrada are all suspended while top striker Humberto Suazo is a doubt.

Paraguay – New Zeeland

Italy – Slovakia

Danmark – Japan
Dánové, chtějí-li postoupit, musí porazit Japonsko. Dánsko vyhrálo 10 z posledních 15 zápasů z asijskými
mužstvy. Obránce Kjaer nemůže hrát z důvodu žlutých karet.
Japonsko je velmi dobře takticky připravené, zvláště v obraně. Dosud obdrželi pouze 1 gol, a 3 z
posledních 4 gólů padly po střelách mimo pokutové území.Japonsko vyhráloí pouze jeden ze 6ti posledních
zápasů z evropskými mužstvy, pokud počítáme zápasy na mistrovství světa.
